Celebrating The South West Coast Path Connectors
Phil Harris, the DMHA’s Community Development Lead for Northern Devon, recently took part in the annual South West Coast Path Celebration Walk. Phil is an avid walker and advocate for better mental health in Northern Devon. Read about Phil’s experience and find out more about the South West Coast Path walks below.
“I was delighted to join the South West Coast Path (SWCP) celebration walk this October (the first leg, some brave souls tackled the full 17 miles!). This annual event celebrates the Coast Path Connectors - their time and effort, as well as the volunteers and all the participants on the SWCP walks here in Northern Devon. We have rugged, steep and desolate moorland tracks, and flat estuary walks along the Tarka trail across our beautiful coastline and this backdrop showcases nature in all it's glory.
Our wellbeing walks run fortnightly in Northern Devon and are great places to link in with support - if you choose - or simply join a friendly walking group and enjoy the view. Highlights this year include otters gambolling in the weir and that the SWCP continued their policy of covering parking costs and a hot drink at the end! If walking is your thing, please do enquire and join a SWCP walk. It's been fantastic to team up with Huw again and we look forward to continuing to support the wellbeing walks for another year.”
South West Coast Path Connectors work across North Devon, Dorset, Torbay, Plymouth and Cornwall. The Connectors regularly schedule free walks across the path within their areas.
