Next Month: Torbay Baton of Hope!

Map of Torbay Baton of Hope Trail across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham

On Tuesday 30th September, over 100 Baton Bearers will take part in a relay walk through Torquay, Paignton and Brixham as part of the Torbay Baton of Hope. Baton of Hope UK aims to raise awareness of the impact of suicide and spread a message of hope. In the year’s UK tour, Torbay has been selected as the South West representative for the Baton of Hope.

We are delighted that Devon Mental Health Alliance’s Torbay team will be taking part in the relay including Community Mental Health Development Lead Bernie McAuley and Learning Exchange Coordinator Georgie Brown. Bernie has described what being a Baton Bearer means to her, “It is an absolute privilege to be part of the Baton of Hope. I am incredibly passionate about raising awareness and also walking in memory of my stepsister and friend. Leading up towards the day many emotions are coming up but ultimately this for me is a day of unity, remembrance and hope that things can change”

The Baton will start at the Torquay Hope Hub (which will have a live tour screen, entertainment, refreshments and wellbeing related stalls) in Princess Gardens and will travel through Paignton and Brixham.

There will be wellbeing events along the route and the tour will culminate in the BIG Show of Hope at the Riviera International Centre.
