Innovation Fund supporting Pantheon Plymouth’s new supportive exercise classes

The Devon Mental Health Alliance Innovation Fund has been awarded to Pantheon Plymouth by our Community Mental Health Development Leads in Plymouth & West Devon.

Pantheon Plymouth, led by former Royal Marine PTI Ben Wadham, will be delivering new outdoor functional fitness sessions for people experiencing mental health challenges. Pantheon Re:Set will provide a great opportunity to get active, meet new people, and socialise with others. Through these sessions, Pantheon also aims to create a ‘community’ of which attendees can feel a part. Coaches from Pantheon have experience of supporting people with a wide range of mental health difficulties into physical activity, and have seen first-hand the benefits it brings to a person’s health and wellbeing.

These free sessions will be delivered twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:30am, at Victoria Park in the Stonehouse/Devonport area (postcode PL1 5NJ). They are running for 12 weeks from 7th February 2023, up until early May. Sessions are open to the local community and inclusive for all fitness levels and abilities.

Speaking after being awarded funding, Pantheon commented:

The DMHA Innovation Funding has allowed us to provide essential exercise therapy to individuals who are experiencing poor mental health. Research has clearly shown the benefit of physical exercise in improving issues such as reduced motivation, anxiety, and depression, which has translated into our Pantheon Re:Set sessions.

The feedback from participants has been very positive and we are over the moon to see these individuals flourish and actively participate in group exercise classes. We look forward to expanding this initiative by way of more classes and reaching out to other cohorts that would benefit from the group, such as people living with chronic conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, and vascular disease.

For more information or if you would like to book your place and take part in Pantheon Re:Set, please call 07305 007 983 or email active@improvinglivesplymouth.org.uk.
