“Resounding Success” of HOPE course
“The HOPE Programme has the ability to change your outlook on life” - HOPE Participant
The HOPE (Help Overcoming Problems Effectively) Programme, run by the Devon Mental Health Alliance and Step One has received resounding feedback, showcasing the impact this course has had on it’s participants. Developed by Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust, The Help Overcoming Problems Effectively (HOPE) programme is a free course that supports individuals in managing their health, wellbeing, and long-term health conditions. The programme also aims to boost self-confidence and resilience, enabling participants to cope better emotionally, psychologically, and practically with their conditions.
Those who took part in Newton Abbot HOPE Course this Summer have put their experience in their own words:
“Although the idea of attending the HOPE Programme is daunting, it is worth overcoming the fear, once you enter the HOPE programme you will feel a sense of peer support, I felt less isolated. The HOPE Programme has the ability to change your outlook on life, in a safe environment where I feel like I could open up.”
“Do attend and do NOT talk yourself out of attending there is so much to be gained. I personally enjoyed being open and honest about how I feel without any judgement towards me. Found it easier to join in with discussions in this very friendly space. Everyone has their own reasons for attending and by the end of the 6-weeks everyone felt friendly and able to communicate as friends and share thoughts on LIFE!! I personally found this course has changed my Entire Perspective of People and how I view People and LIFE.”
“A little apprehensive and anxious before the first session. Amazed at how at ease and open I was to talk about my feelings to people I barely know feeling comfortable to show my emotions and vulnerability so early on. I feel I have made some friends along the way in which I can laugh, smile and cry with! Thank you HOPE!”
“I was a little nervous to start with but soon found everyone lovely and friendly. From the start the tutors explained what we would be doing over the six weeks and made us feel very comfortable. I have enjoyed being and getting to know new people. I have enjoyed all the course especially learning about Gratitude and learning how to use it. I also enjoyed and found useful the mindfulness. I intend to continue with mindfulness and gratitude.”
The HOPE programme currently runs across 2 Devon venues: The X-Centre (Step One Charity), Commercial Rd, Exeter EX2 4DX and Courtenay Centre, Newton Abbot, TQ12 2QA.
