Alternative Halloween Activity in Tavistock
The Devon Mental Health Alliance’s Tavistock Mental Health and Recovery Drop-in has been embracing the autumn season with a creative twist on a classic Halloween tradition.
Rather than carving traditional pumpkin lanterns, attendees took part in a relaxing arts and crafts session, transforming pumpkins into beautiful seasonal flower arrangements. The activity encouraged creativity, conversation and connection, providing an enjoyable opportunity for people to spend time together in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Participants carefully hollowed out their pumpkins before filling them with colourful autumn flowers, foliage and seasonal decorations. Each arrangement reflected the individual style and imagination of its creator, resulting in a vibrant display of unique designs.
Cindy Dale, the Co-Production Lead for the DMHA who co-facilitates the Tavistock drop-in, said:
“We enjoyed a lovely autumn activity making pumpkin flower arrangements. Instead of carving scary faces into our pumpkins, we gave them a beautiful seasonal twist! We started by scooping out the insides of the pumpkins before filling them with colourful autumn flowers. Everyone had the chance to get creative and make their own unique arrangement. The activity was a fun and relaxing way to spend time together, share ideas and enjoy being creative in a friendly, supportive space.”
The Tavistock Mental Health and Recovery Drop-in regularly offers a range of activities designed to promote positive mental health, reduce isolation and provide a safe space where people can connect with others in their local community. Seasonal events such as this not only bring people together but also give attendees the opportunity to try something new, build confidence and enjoy a sense of achievement.
The finished pumpkin arrangements provided a colourful centrepiece for the drop-in, bringing a touch of autumn cheer and demonstrating that Halloween can be celebrated in creative and uplifting ways.
