Open-minded conversations about mental health at the Festival of Human Connection

Our Community Mental Health Development Lead in Torbay & South Devon recently hosted an event called the Festival of Human Connection, which included discussions and exploration of themes including the concept of being human, the nervous system, eco-spirituality, and more. Speakers at the event included local psychologists, psychiatrists, and more.

Bernie, who led on the organisation of the event, said the following about how it went:

The day was amazing! We really achieved what we wanted to do, which was to share knowledge and experience in relation to mental illness, having an open mind on how we can improve care within mental health services and move forward as caring humans together, as opposed to siloed sectors, services, and job roles.

I was listening to lots of conversations throughout the day and heard community staff creating plans and projects with both primary and secondary care organisations. We are already thinking about the next Festival of Human Connection event. Thank you and well done everyone for bringing yourselves to the day! 😊

Bernie has also shared quotes from some of those in attendance at the event:

I just wanted to say thank you for Friday. I thought it was a great day and really appreciated the planning and detail that had gone in. Furthermore, the way you worked together on the day and complemented one another — it felt a very safe space , and I left feeling full of hope and very joyful that I’d had the privilege to be part of this first event.
Just wanted to say again what an incredible day Friday was. I loved it and took so much from it ... I found the group activities really engaging. I loved how open-hearted and free-flowing the day was, but with structure.
Thank you for the excellent event last week. It was enjoyable and engaging to be in the room with so many likeminded individuals.
