New Leaf — Helping people with mental health conditions towards future employment

Colleagues from the Devon Mental Health Alliance were recently invited to attend a meeting at New Leaf and were hugely impressed by the work that takes place there.

New Leaf is a part of the Devon Partnership NHS Trust’s Vocational Rehabilitation Service, which supports adults with mental health issues in their recovery with a view to looking for work now or in the near future.

Placements are offered for 1 day a week over 18 weeks, to support the replication of a work environment across catering, woodworks, and plant nursery departments, all of which have a commercial focus. Self-referrals are accepted, and health and social care professionals are encouraged to recommend their service, which currently has no waiting list.

New Leaf’s wonderful 35-acre site on the edge of Exminster, complete with a fruit orchard and new allotment, offers people an opportunity to develop their skills and work routine within a supportive team and idyllic setting.
